Baraa Abdelghne was awarded the first place prize for the inaugural essay contest in 2017. Safed House conducted an interview with him that highlights some themes from his beautiful essay about leaving his home of Aleppo and fearing for his brother’s life. Baraa shares his fear of America before coming here. We also document how he is being adaptive, resilient and excelling as a student in his current middle school.
